Project Overview

ClassFlow Assessment Builder enables teachers to choose from a variety of question types to create compelling assessments from scratch for their classes.

My Role

I was the primary UX designer on this project, responsible for user flows, wireframes, prototyped functionality, and visual design. I also collaborated with project management and development team on functional specifications.

The Challenge

The assessment building experience was clunky and overly complex for the target user to come in and easily use. Users didn’t know where to begin to create questions, what some questions types meant nor how to save or find elements that were valuable for delivering to students. This made attracting and retaining users difficult.

Discovery and Research

The first steps entailed investigating other question/quiz building competitor apps that teachers were primarily using from the likes of Google, Microsoft, and Edmodo. I pulled a lot of ideas that were great from those platforms and identified the not so great issues with them as well. We gathered feedback from current users and conducted user interviews with teachers to identify issues with the existing app to ensure we were building something they would find useful.

Solution

The ClassFlow Assessment Builder received an update to the overall layout and existing functionality, and a short list of newly identified features that lined up with core user needs were added to the product roadmap. The idea was the simplify the experience by allowing the user to jump into building their question set and deliver more efficiently.

Wireframes

Wireframes, visual design, and development each progressed in two week sprints. The wireframes below demonstrate the ideas the came about after doing extensive research on competitors and understanding what teachers wanted out of a question set builder.
